Kabuli chickpeas also known as Garbanzo beans originated in the Fertile Crescent area spanning Middle East and Turkey. The name Kabuli is from Kabul Afghanistan where the cultivation and domestication primed and made inroads to India. No wonder it’s so popular in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India making the famous “Cholay” and in Middle East and Turkey making the “Hummus”.
